Abstract
The purpose of all education,is to fit for a useful, and happy life. "The basic aims and values in English teaching, rest primarily upon expression and thought".(1) Hence, the main purpose of the course in Composition is to increase the pupil's power of expression. The main purpose of the course in literature is to increase the pupil's ability to read with intelligence and appreciation. The English course for the eleventh grade should lead to the formation of good habits in oral and written composition, correct interpretation of the written page, and an appreciation of good literature.
The problem of this study is the making of a syllabus for the eleventh grade in English, in the Prairie View High School, which,if carefully followed, will meet the needs of the pupils of this group,in this subject, and will bring about a closer articulation between the high school and the college.
