Abstract
The school we know today has not always been the same, it is the result of sincere work on the part of many Americans over a long period of time. Moehlm states that, "education in the United States has evolved in structure and scope since the beginning of the nation Because of this interest shown by the American people, definite purposes pertaining to secondary education have been developed, the primary one being that of producing good citizens. Allen states:
The social studies teacher has a unique responsibility in the development of good citizens because the content of the social studies deals directly with citizenship.
The educational process in the United States depends greatly upon a strong executive staff who is basically concerned with the selection and placing of teachers. It is the opinion of the writer that teacher selection is among the most important responsibilities
of school executives. An old but perhaps fitting statement concerning the awareness of executive responsibility was made by one executive.
