Abstract
Purposes of This Study
The purposes of this study may be generally classified as three in number. First, to give a resume of some modem techniques and practices used by administrators and educators to develop social competence in their pupils; secondly, to review activities that contribute to maintaining and improving social competence and thirdly, to make available some data which may be used as a basis for revising the school's goals and methods of teaching social education.
Definitions of Social Education
There are many definitions of social education. Otto says, "Social education, as defined in this book, implies deliberate Instruction designed to promote children's social development in desirable directions.
Social education in the high school is concerned with helping its pupils to establish desirable and happy personal and social relationships with peers and adults. In addition, they should develop a value system which will give meaning to their lives and achieve the competence necessary to make a worthwhile contribution to social living.
