Abstract
The need for physical education is very much apparent. Physical education is not a fad but is fundamental to educational development. Physical education activities are educational activities and deserve a fair share of school time. Properly selected, organized, and taught activities serve to relieve the physical and mental strain incident to academic class instruction and are disciplinary problems. Increased attendance and improved mental attitudes often follow as results of a good physical education program. In compiling this investigation, the writer realized the value and necessity of physical education in the school curriculum. An attempt was made to set up a program which would serve the needs of individuals through an organized program of physical education. Because of the close relationship between physical well-being, efficiency of work, and standards of conduct, and because mental and physical development and learning take place together, a well-planned program of physical education is one of the most basic parts of a school program.
Purpose of the Study
The purpose of this program was to work out a program of physical education for girls in the Settegast High School of Houston, Texas that would be educational, developmental, and corrective. The program was formulated to meet the general and specific needs of all students with early over values, and to serve as a guide for future improvement in the entire program.
