Abstract
Unlimited studies have been made in relation to the education of Begroes in rural communities but few have investigated the men of raising school funds in the rural. It Is the purpose of this study to present facts regarding some of the more important phases of raising school funds in rural communities, some of the more important phases are: 1. Extended services and community relationships. 2. Function of the school In relation to community affairs. 3. Program given for the purpose of raising school fends in rural schools. Despite the fact that In the last two decades m have witnessed the greatest exodus of negroes of rural sections in the history of our country, the majority still live In the country, According to the census report of 1930, more than two-thirds of the race reside in farming areas. In fifteen of the southern states, It was found that of the 9,420,747 Negro population 67,4 percent aero rural dwellers* In three of these states the percentage was as high as 79, 81, and 83. Methods of procedure Material for this thesis was gathered from a survey in Harris County and Washington County. Twenty families in Washington County and forty families in Harris County were contacted by means of a questionnaire and a percentage worked out from each observation.
