Abstract
This study is to present an account of observations made through a survey of thirty typical rural kitchens in Marion County, Texas.
Suggestions are offered for improving these and other rural kitchens. Emphasis is placed upon the relationship between the kitchen and the home.
There is no room in the home to which the principles of well-planned systematic household management can be applied so effectively as in the kitchen. This is because the kitchen bears such an important relationship to all phases of home life, health, leisure, economy, personal efficiency, social relations and family relationships, which are all affected in varying degrees by the products of the kitchen and methods employed in creating them. Because of this fact it seemed wise to make an analysis of the elements that are essential to maximum kitchen efficiency in Marion County, Texas.
The original purpose of this study is to secure facts about the actual conditions existing in a number of kitchens. This study- further aims to stimulate favorable attitudes toward home life, and therefore, secure a more scientific basis for a program of improving the conditions in rural kitchens.
The following data were revealed through observations, surveys and visits.
