Abstract
Teachers of various schools have been complaining of the frequent errors In language usage made by their students. Extensive research and experiments have been made with the ultimate aim to develop a program of language usage.
In 1928. the National Council of Teachers of English realized that for more than a century, good English has been one of the major concerns of our educational system. A committee was appointed consisting of nine prominent linguistic scholars to study the problem of the English language courses in our universities and colleges.
Many universities and colleges have been conducting speech tests for a number of years; others have inaugurated testing programs comparatively recently; some have developed a standard test for which additional alteration fits their needs.
What applies to speech also applies to writing.
At the present time, numerous types of school systems throughout ths country are at work on curriculum reorganization. A large number of the workers in these programs have as their goals the setting up of a "scope and sequence" that will provide students with learning experiences in form of life activities that can be administered in such a way that instructions will in every case ^ be adjusted to the maturity and previous training of the pupil.
