Abstract

Need for the Study Institutions of higher learning require high school principals to submit records concerning the scholastic achievements, the character, personality traits, and much other needed information about their graduates With this in view and with the rapid progress being made in child accounting, there Is a realization of the lack of data for all needed information. Not sufficient Information is given of these records when pupils are transferred from one school to another; the pressing need for better records and the need for more complete data have for many years been realized. The rapid progress in educational requirements has given rise to tne realization of a need for improvement in the system of record-keeping.

Purpose of Study.- These needs enumerated make it necessary that adequate records be kept. Thus the purpose of this study is to analyze the system of record-keeping in twenty-five representative Negro high schools of Texas with the idea of determining the type of records found, the purpose which they now serve, and the Increased usefulness which may be possible.

The Problem Stated.- This investigation is planned to provide data for formulating answers to the following questions which this study proposes to answer:

1. What are the kinds of records now found in the twenty-five selected Negro schools understudy?

2. What usefulness do they serve as determined by the principals?

3. To what extent can the schools improve their record forms to furnish more adequate Information?

Scope and Limitations of study- This study deals with the present system of record-keeping as found in twenty-five representative Negro high schools. These schools were not taken from any selected section of the state, but encompass the state as a whole so as to give a fair knowledge of the kinds of records being kept by the Negro schools of Texas.
