Abstract
Profit has "been the source of considerable confusion in the study of economies and in the establishment of public policy. There is general agreement among the economists to apply the name profits to the income that rewards entrepreneurship However, not every writer has the same concept in mind when he seeks to explain the sources, magnitude, and significance of profits. As a result, writers frequently present different theories in their attempt to interpret the concept of profits, their origin, and functions.
THE PROBLEM
Statement of the problem. It was the purpose of this study (1) to identify and define the kinds and sources of profits; (2) to indicate the significance of profits in our capitalistic society (3) to present an analysis of profits and (4) to examine the benefits of profits to society.
Importance of the study. The various theories of profits have resulted in a high degree of confusion and clouded thinking on the part of many who attempt to understand the various facets of our economic system. This confusion has resulted in the absence of a definitive theory which has common and universal acceptance.
