Abstract
A survey of the health and physical education program for boys in the Negro Class "A" High Schools of Louisiana, the writer will attempt to find the existing conditions in order to determine the type of health and physical education department each school should maintain. This study covered only the class "A" high schools in Louisiana the year 1950 and 1951.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the health and physical education program in each school and to indicate problems which must be dealt with if the role which is implied is to be played successfully.
Another purpose of the study was to aid each individual in securing a meaningful concept of health and physical education, to offer opportunities, and demonstrate the development of health and physical education.
The study was also made to show school officials the particular characteristics and problems of health and physical education of their own community. To encourage participation in community health activities, and, to develop desirable attitudes toward and a sense of responsibility for community betterment which will carry over into daily life.
The function of health and physical education in any community is to make the community better. It can have no greater purpose than to unite the work of the school with the activities of the community through helping students to make adjustments to individuals and to groups, and analyze physical educational capabilities.
