Abstract

This study entailed an investigation of suggestions for program planning which includes: objectives, facilities, coeducational activities, and individual and team activities, self testing, evaluation and student leadership. Upon the basis of the findings, the investigator offered a suggested coeducational physical education program for fifth and sixth grade students.

This study was subject to the following limitations. One elementary school in the Beaumont Independent School District, 140 boys and girls in the fifth and sixth grade classes who were included in the investigators suggestions for the coeducational physical education program.

A review of related literature failed to reflect an organized coeducational physical education program for fifth and sixth grade students.

It was the purpose of this research study to (1) develop a coeducational physical education program for fifth and sixth grade students at Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School, Beaumont, Texas, (2) to develop specific objectives of physical fitness, skills, knowledges, and appreciation of the activities selected, and (3) to help boys and girls learn how to work and play together with respect for each individual's ability.
