Abstract
Sheet tensile specimens of a duplex stainless steel, alloy 2205, were tensile tested in LiCl at 120 C, in a constant load test apparatus under controlled potential conditions. The polarization curve and corrosion rate were obtained at 120 C. During anodic polarization the specimens failed in direct proportion to the anodic current. Under cathodic polarization no failure occurred for the duration of the tests. The failure mode is discussed, and metallographic evidence is presented to support the discussion.
