This research is being conducted with the desire to contribute material to coaches, players, and trainers, hoping that its significance will be useful in improving the game of basketball. It is further desired upon being appointed head basketball coach at J. H. Rowe High School of Jasper, Texas, to develop a well planned weight training program as a supplement to the regular basketball conditioning program that will be conducive to the educational and athletic interest of the school, community, and individuals involved.
This study was made in an effort to determine the effect of a carefully supervised weight training program upon the leg strength and vertical jumping ability of the J. H. Rowe High School basketball players.
