Abstract

Burnout among healthcare leaders is a serious issue because it can degrade organizational performance, staff welfare, and patient care. Previous studies have shown a correlation between leadership and burnout, but few have examined how burnout connects directly to leadership styles. Primary data were collected through an online survey administered to healthcare leaders using the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ), the Maslach Burnout Inventory Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS), and the Organizational Culture Assessment Instrument (OCAI). The dataset was analyzed using descriptive statistics, reliability testing, ordered logistic regression, and moderation analysis to examine the relationships between leadership styles, organizational culture, and burnout while controlling for demographic characteristics.

The results indicated that transformational leadership was positively related to professional burnout; transactional leadership was negatively related to professional burnout. These findings contribute to the leadership literature by shifting the focus from staff burnout to leader burnout. The results can help healthcare organizations develop leadership strategies that promote leaders' well-being.

Keywords: burnout, correlational analysis, healthcare leaders, leadership styles, organizational culture, ordered logistic regression, transformational leadership
